You know, the Franklin half series is an interesting one.  Though it may not seem so at first blush, it is fundamentally a "low-mintage" one.  Consider that the highest mintage Franklin (1963-D at 67 million...and it is almost double the next highest) was issued to the tune of only 25% of the 1964 Kennedy mintage from Philly.  Also, consider the mintages as they compare to the late date Walkers (the "short set" from 1941 through 1947).  The average of those Walker mintages is almost 16 million.  Only 1/3rd of the Franklin mintages exceed that number, while nearly 60% of the issues were struck in quantities under 10 million per.  Further consider that the total series mintage of Franklins is only a smidgen higher than the 1964 P and D Kennedy halves!  In addition, the series is chock-full of interesting die varieties to collect and cherry pick.  And, finding really well struck, very choice coins can be a serious challenge.  Yes, there are no stoppers, and yes, it is modern, and yes, you could complete any old set without much effort.  But, doing it right would take some work, and they're not making any more of them!
