    Century Polychrome Cochiti (est.) Pueblo Painted Cottonwood & Rawhide Double-Sided Drum
    Item Description.
    A painted ovoid drum from the Cochiti Pueblo of the American Southwest.
    The drum has a nice patina on the skins and appears to have been used extensively based on the wear patterns, especially how the pigments around the side have worn away.
    Originally the blue and red pigments completely encircled the drum and were separated by a white line.
    The drum makes a nice tone when struck.

    Both skins are in excellent condition and remain taught and supple but are darkened with age.
    The rawhide strip holding the skins in place also appears to be in
    excellent
    condition with no breaks.
    Much of the red, blue and white pigment which originally covered the sides has been lost, with the remaining pigment in protected areas at the edges of the rawhide.
    The section of rawhide used to hold the striker (or hold the drum) has broken and is lost.
