Description
These are my 1/8" Flat Jaw TongsThese tongs are set up to hold 1/8-inch and thinner gauge stock. They are great for doing sheet metal work, and maneuvering small pieces.
These tongs have v-grooves in both jaws to provide superior grip and to allow for holding square and round rod. Due to the small nature of 1/8-inch rod, the straight and 90 degree v-groove is only in one jaw, and an x-pattern v-groove is in the other jaw. This allows maximum grippage on flat stock, but still gives a solid 3-point contact system on 1/8-inch square and round rod.
All of my tongs are made from new 5160 spring steel. This makes them lighter and stronger than other tongs, which translates into a more comfortable grip and less fatigue on your hand.
The overall length of my tongs is 18 inches, and the reigns are a rounded rectangular profile making them comfortable and not too bulky.
All of my tongs are forged to finish, cleaned in a vibratory tumbler, and finished with a dry cosmoline rust inhibitor.
(This is a slightly waxy, not a greasy or oily finish.)
DO NOT QUENCH TONGS!
If you heat these tongs up and cool them in water, they will break. It is an EXTREMELY bad habit to overheat your tongs. Good habit is to dunk your tongs in water rapidly, IN and back OUT very quickly. This will cool your tongs down slowly and prevent making the material hard and brittle. If you do not understand this process....do not hesitate to ask questions.
