Description
This is an Original Red Ute / Edward Bent Box Sr. Traditional Handmade Indian Flute. The flute has a label that says that it is made of Cedar wood. The flute has a totem attached on top by leather straps that appears to also be cedar. This flute is signed ""RU" and retains it's original tag. The flute has leather strips attached and is a 6 hole marked Key of F#. This flute appears new and unused. The flute measures approximately 22-1/2 inches long and 1-1/8 inches in diameter. The totem measures approximately 2-1/2 inches long, 1 inch wide and 3/4 inches tall. This flute is one of the last remaining original pieces purchased from the maker's estate. Please see photos.Edward Bent Box / Red Ute - his Indian Name, (April 1, 1920 - September 18, 2012) was a Traditional Spiritual Leader of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and member of the Moache-Capote Bands of the Ute Nation.
One of his greatest passions was traditional Indian flute-making. He was a member of the Indian Arts and Crafts Assn. (IACA), Southern Highland Craft Guild, and the International Native American Flute Assn. (INAFA).
