    Description

Set Of 13 Coca Cola WWII Warplanes 13”x15” Hardboard Advertising Portraits of World War 2 planes in action. Shipped free with USPS Priority Mail. Many additional detailed pictures available including the 13th, the A-36 Invader (dive bombing / ground attack variant of the P-51 Mustang).
All are from the same collection, in terrific condition, with the paper and twine hang tags on the rear. One has a loose paper tag. The unique thing about these original owner boards is the old fashioned thumbtack marks here and there on some of the signs. They show light age appropriate wear on the edges but no broken corners and amazingly few blemishes and scratches. The thumbtack impressions are so random, not like they were attached to the paneling or anything at all corners. Having been a plastic model building boy in the 60s and 70s with Model Box covers and magazine pictures taped and tacked to every surface of my room, it wouldn’t surprise me if the original owner was a barber or soda fountain proprietor who tacked photos of friends and patrons who were away at war flying these planes.
The additional photos and closeups of the backs and fronts, including angled shots, show what great condition they are in. If anything, the thumbtacks marks add to the mystique like wear marks on a bar counter.
Two styles of borders, the gold edge, and a wood grain framed edge. Not sun-faded. Most show the artist HEASLIP signature. The Airacobra sign is cupped a little from humidity. Otherwise all flat and happy!
If you are a WW2 aviation nut like me, you’ll recognize the optimistic wartime exaggeration of stats like speed, range and bomb capacity.
Among the 13 are some rare eyebrow raisers and head scratchers which fooled me, and which aren’t found often. Whether you love Coca-Cola advertising or warplanes and aviation, and own some duplicates, these will bump out some of yours of lesser quality!
I’m really not interested in selling them separately, will leave that to you. They were found in Glenview, IL, location of the now closed GNAS Glenview Naval Air Station. Where the US Navy planes in the collection were flown and trained. Here is a list of aircraft. You can zoom in on the images themselves and I’ll happily forward all the closeups and back side pics.
