Description
We are offering a vintage circa 1920's Pueblo Indian flat drum, handcrafted from cottonwood and rawhide, the drum heads brightly painted, one side is decorated with a large star medallion comprised of 4 conjoined arrows surrounded by a paneled banded border, the other with 3 concentric diamonds surrounded by a series of connected arrows banded border. This traditional example was made from a hollowed log with hide stretched across and fastened tightly with leather laces and has a nice sound. Stands 4 1/2" tall and measures approximately 11 1/2" x 10" across the heads. In good overall condition. The paint is all original with scattered flaking, wear and loss as shown. The rawhide lacing and handle are complete and tight with one small break where the edge of the head joins the lacing but it is not loose, no other issues or damage. Both drum heads are smooth without splits or holes, some light scrapes to one side that don't interfere with the design. Please study the photos as they are a part of the description. Offered here fresh out of an estate for the first time. Payment in full is expected within 48 hours of close of auction. Free local pick up in Santa Fe.
